Unique induction weeks in Shanghai for our sports, luxury and hospitality students!

Jun 01, 2016

Before embarking on the final part of their journey in Shanghai, students of the MSc in Sports Industry Management, MSc in Luxury Management & Marketing and MSc in International Hospitality Management benefitted from exceptional tailor-made inductions weeks.

The “sports week”

MSc in Sports Industry Management students enjoyed a “sports week” during which they met industry professionals, went on a mystery retail shopping tour and attended different lectures about the Asian business environment and the challenges the region is currently facing.

Among others, students met with Sandrine Zerbib, CEO of Fulljet, a sports consulting firm based in Shanghai, and former President of adidas in Greater China, as well as Yue Xiao, Country Brand Manager for Ski and Hiking footwear for Decathlon China. After their Mystery Retail Visit, students continued to build on their networking skills by meeting with both Stéphanie Tham, Marketing Director of Wolverine/ Merell and May Ping Chan, Head Hunter at Key Talents, who explained how human resources and talent management worked in China.

At the end of the sports week, students had the chance to attend the F1 Grand Prix Qualifications in Shanghai and met with the organizers!

The “Luxury Week”

This year’s cohort had the pleasure to go visit the Shanghai Museum and take part in a Luxury Treasure Hunt where they discovered new luxury stores and had to report back on what struck them most. Furthermore, the intake visited world-renowned Shang Xia Maison where they learned about the finest Chinese design traditions!

To increase their luxury network and in order to broaden their spectrum of the luxury industry, Programme Director Michel Phan organised a meeting between his students and Mr Fong Sit, Managing Director China of John Paul Luxury Concierge Services. Finally, the intake enjoyed a nice oenology class on the last day of this unique induction week.

The “hospitality week”

Just like students from the other cohorts, students from the MSc in International Hospitality Management had the opportunity to take part in a dedicated hospitality week during which they met with industry professionals, toured exceptional hotels and restaurants and developed their network on the Asian market! From touring the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, the Shangri-La, the Peninsula, the Fairmont Peace Hotel as well as the Grand Kempinski, the Four Seasons Pudong and the Ritz-Carlton Pudong, to meeting top chefs and discovering highly ranked restaurants, the students truly had an exceptional hospitality experience.

These special induction weeks are perfect to get students fully immersed into their new living and academic environments right from the start of their Shanghai semester!
